Porcelain Veneers

If you have always dreamed of a perfect smile, porcelain veneers may be the treatment to help you achieve your goal! Our patients love the way veneers improve their appearance. Not only are they attractive, but they are also durable and long-lasting when cared for properly.

Why Choose Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain is a strong, slightly translucent material that closely resembles the appearance of your natural tooth enamel. We custom design porcelain veneers to match your facial structure, gender, skin tone and age. Everyone’s teeth look slightly different, and a natural appearance is important to many of our patients!

We will take time to discuss your goals for your smile so that you are pleased with the final result.

What Cosmetic Problems Can Porcelain Veneers Improve?

One of the great things about porcelain veneers is that they are so versatile.

Veneers offer many solutions, including:

  • Changing the shape of uneven teeth
  • Covering chips and cracks in teeth
  • Concealing gaps between your teeth
  • Correcting the appearance of slightly misaligned teeth

If you have severely worn teeth from a clenching or grinding habit or if you have a damaged smile due to an accident, porcelain veneers can restore the length and appearance of your teeth while reducing sensitivity that is common with the loss of enamel.

What to Expect from Porcelain Veneer Treatment

Before we proceed with any treatment, it’s important for you to have a dental exam. We need to make sure your teeth and gums are healthy so we can determine whether porcelain veneers are the best choice for you.

If porcelain veneers are right for you, we start by removing a small bit of tooth enamel so the veneers will fit your teeth properly. We take impressions and help you choose the right shade for your finished veneers. The impressions are sent to our dental lab where your veneers are custom-made according to our specifications, with special attention to comfort and function.

When your veneers are finished, you can return to our office, and we will bond the veneers securely to the front surface of your teeth. Once they are in place, we make any final adjustments to ensure a good fit.

Caring for Your New Smile

With regular dental visits and proper care, your veneers can keep your smile beautiful for many years. You should follow your dentist’s recommendation for a dental hygiene schedule and make sure that you practise diligent oral care at home.

Just like your natural teeth, your porcelain veneers are strong, but not indestructible. We will go over the proper care and treatment of your dental implants, but a few guidelines include:

  • Don't bite or chew anything you shouldn't - hard candy, ice cubes, etc
  • Never use your teeth as tools
  • Take care of your restorations the same way you care for you teeth
  • If you notice a damaged restoration. let us know right away

Porcelain veneers have been known to last anywhere from several years to a decade. Porcelain veneers are very strong and durable, but how long they last really depends on how well you take care of your teeth and your oral health, in general.

Proper oral hygiene plays an important role in the longevity of your dental veneers. In general, though, you will get the most out of your veneers if you treat them with the same care as your natural teeth.
